Twins Conjoined at Birth Set to Start School

Twins conjoined at birth

Rosie and Ruby Formosa, from Bexleyheath in Kent, were born joined at the abdomen and shared an intestine. It was a difficult start for these sisters, as their chances of survival seemed slim. But they defied the odds and underwent an emergency surgery at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital (Gosh) to be successfully separated. It was truly a miracle.

Their mother, Angela, recalls the heartbreak of learning about the girls’ condition. “At 16 weeks, they sent me to King’s College Hospital and it was there that they discovered the connection between the girls,” she said. “I was really scared and upset because at that point I was told that there was a high possibility that the girls wouldn’t survive the pregnancy.”

But against all odds, Rosie and Ruby not only survived the pregnancy, but also the birth and the complex surgery that followed. They are true fighters and an inspiration to everyone around them.

A New Chapter: Starting School

Four years have passed since the successful surgery, and Rosie and Ruby are now ready to start school. It is a special moment for their family. Angela proudly shared that the girls have already met their teacher and are “very excited” to join their older sister Lilly in attending school.

While Angela and her husband feel a sense of emptiness when the girls are away, they are overjoyed to see their daughters reach this milestone. It is a testament to their strength and resilience.
