It is with a heavy heart that we pay tribute to the late Johnny Wactor, beloved star of General Hospital. At just 37 years old, Wactor’s life was tragically cut short on a Saturday morning in Los Angeles. He heroically lost his life while protecting a coworker from thieves attempting to steal his catalytic converter.
Wactor’s bravery and selflessness were evident in the moments leading up to the incident. Walking his coworker to her car after a shift at a rooftop bar, he noticed three masked men near his vehicle. Believing his car was being towed, he quickly realized the danger when a man brandished a gun. Without hesitation, Wactor shielded his coworker from harm, displaying the true essence of a Southern gentleman.
His brother, Grant, shared with the Daily Mail, “We’re Southern by birth and blood, and we would never let a woman walk to their car by herself.” Grant described Johnny as a hardworking individual, both as an actor and as a family member, stating, “I think my brother worked harder than anyone else I’ve ever known. He was a great son and brother.”
The news of Wactor’s untimely death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and among fans of General Hospital. Fellow actor William deVry, who also stars on the show, expressed his grief over the loss. Calling it a “senseless” tragedy, deVry emphasized the profound impact Johnny had on those around him. He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “There are no words to describe how pointless this loss is. Johnny was a great person. Bad, really bad. Rest in peace, Johnny Watson. Sending love and comfort to his family and friends.”
Parry Shen, who shared the screen with Wactor on General Hospital, remembered his friend’s beautiful soul. Shen acknowledged Johnny’s talent and sense of humor, describing him as someone always ready for anything. He fondly recalled the wonderful times they spent together, both on and off the screen, expressing his deep admiration for Wactor as a person.
Johnny Wactor’s impact extended beyond his colleagues on the show. Sofia Mattsson, who played his wife on the drama series, expressed her admiration for him on Instagram. She highlighted Wactor’s honesty, care, humility, and hard work, emphasizing his ability to bring happiness and kindness to everyone he encountered. Mattsson cherished the time they spent together and expressed gratitude for having known him, calling him a true inspiration.
The General Hospital family also mourned the loss of Wactor. Acknowledging his unique presence and the pleasure of working with him, they conveyed their heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, the Central Division Homicide of the Los Angeles Police Department is diligently working to bring justice to the perpetrator(s) responsible for this tragedy. The entire General Hospital community stands united in remembering Johnny Wactor’s legacy and the impact he had on those around him.
