Missing Brit Jay Slater was seen 'walking alone' before vanishing, Tenerife local says

Jay Slater, who is from Lancashire, was enjoying a holiday in Tenerife with two friends prior to his disappearance on 17 June. They had flown to the Canary Islands to attend a music festival. At some point during their vacation, Jay went to stay with people he had met on the trip after a night out, but he has since been reported missing.

According to his friend Lucy, Jay had gone on a night out with the group earlier that evening but had separated from them to spend time with new acquaintances. Lucy disclosed to the Manchester Evening News that the accommodation of these “new friends” was located in a remote area, and Jay had called her the following morning at around 8:00 am to inform her that he was attempting to walk home after being unable to catch a bus. He mentioned that his phone battery was nearly depleted, he needed water, and he was unsure of his whereabouts.

Unfortunately, Jay’s phone died shortly after the call, and the last known location showed him to be in the Rural de Teno Park, situated in the northwest of the island, in the middle of the mountains with no civilization around.

Araceli, a Tenerife local working in a business near the rental property where Jay was last seen, shared her observations with the Mirror. Although she personally did not see the missing boy, she mentioned that others had spotted him walking alone. Araceli also mentioned encountering two British men who stayed at the property. They visited her cafe a couple of times, and one of them was around 40 years old, while the other was slightly younger. She added that the police had already spoken to both men, who had originally planned to stay until Monday but left on Tuesday.

A Snapchat video was released showing Jay’s appearance before he went missing. It depicted him wearing a grey t-shirt with green stripes on the shoulders and carrying a black bag. It is likely that this is what he was wearing when he disappeared the next morning.

The British Foreign Office has stated that they are providing support to Jay’s family and are in contact with local authorities. LADbible Group has reached out to the Civil Guard for additional comments.

Let us all hope and pray for Jay’s safe return as the search continues.
