A young blonde physical education teacher was excited to teach a group of energetic 16-year-olds. As she watched the students play soccer on the field, she noticed one boy standing alone at the far end, away from the rest of the group.
Feeling sympathetic, she approached the boy with a friendly smile. “Hey there, everything alright?” she asked in a kind tone. The boy nodded, but it was clear that he wasn’t eager to join the game.
Unwilling to let him sit on the sidelines, the teacher encouraged him, saying, “You can go and have fun with the others, you know.”
To her surprise, the boy shook his head and replied, “I think it’s best if I stay here.” Confused, the teacher asked, “And why is that, honey?”
The boy looked at her with confusion and then burst into laughter as he said, “Because I’m the goalie!”
In that moment, both the teacher and the boy shared a joyous laugh. Laughter has a unique way of connecting people and brightening even the simplest moments. It reminds us that amidst the stress and seriousness of life, there is still room for lightheartedness and pure joy.
