People Concerned About New Stand-Up Waterslide

Some things are meant to be left alone, like waterslides. The joy comes from sliding down on your belly or your backside and enjoying the ride. But now, there’s a new concept that has been causing quite a buzz – the world’s first stand-up waterslide.

Developed by AquaMagis in Plettenberg, Germany, this unique waterslide allows riders to stay upright throughout the entire experience. Understandably, this idea has raised many eyebrows and sparked concerns among people who have seen it online.

A video shared on TikTok showcases a brave individual trying out the “Sauerland Surfer.” In the clip, the rider can be seen standing up as water flows around them, propelling them forward. While the course is relatively short, some people question the safety of such a ride.

Comments on the video express doubts and worries about potential injuries. One user shared their personal experience, stating, “I’ve been on one of those, and I fell, and it hurt so bad.” Another added, “Sometimes there’s a reason why nobody has done it before.” Concerns about knee injuries and getting body parts stuck also emerged.

Though safety checks have likely been conducted, many individuals are choosing to stick with traditional waterslides for now. After all, the risk of rolling an ankle seems insignificant compared to the thought of being trapped underwater on a ride.

Speaking of scary waterslides, let’s not forget the Fly Over at the Tiki Pool in Duinrell holiday park, which was dubbed the “scariest slide of all time” in 1994. This ride was the world’s only underwater waterslide. Swimmers had to dive underwater to access the slide, which transported them upwards without any air for around 15 to 20 seconds. It was truly a claustrophobic experience.

So, while the stand-up waterslide may have its enthusiasts, there are still plenty of us who prefer the traditional belly or backside sliding. Safety and comfort should always be a priority when it comes to water rides.
