Mia Robertson: A Champion with a Smile

Mia Robertson, the youngest daughter of Duck Dynasty‘s Jase & Missy Robertson, was born with a condition called cleft lip and palate. This means there is a gap in her upper lip that can also involve the gum. It’s not a common condition, with only about one in every 1,600 babies born with it in the U.S. Mia, who is now 18 years old, has already undergone 13 surgeries for her condition and recently had her 14th surgery. Her family hopes that this will be the final procedure to solve her problem.

Throughout all these surgeries, Mia has remained positive and has become an inspiration for other children with the same condition. She took the initiative, with the support of her family, to establish the Mia Moo Fund. The fund’s goal is to raise awareness about cleft lip and palate and provide financial assistance to families facing the medical challenges of this condition.

On Jase Robertson’s podcast, Unashamed, he shared an update on Mia’s condition, reporting that she is recovering well. “She’s doing great. She’s turned a corner,” he said. “Everything seems great, seems to be fine.” Despite the surgery taking longer than expected, Mia is now at home and on her way to full recovery. The Robertson family is grateful for the prayers and support they have received during this time.

Before the surgery, Missy Robertson, Mia’s mother, talked about her daughter’s condition. She mentioned that people frequently asked her about the number of future procedures Mia would need to undergo, to which she always replied, “We just don’t know.” Missy explained that they place their trust in God and lean on Him for guidance. As Mia has reached the age of 18, she now takes the lead in discussions and medical decisions. It has been a unique experience for the family, reminding them to surrender control and rely on their faith.

Mia herself is hopeful that she is nearing the end of her medical journey. “Hopefully the last time I’ll see my doctors in this setting! It’s been a long road, but we are at the finish line,” she bravely declared.

In addition to supporting Mia, the Robertson family has been preparing for a new addition. They have opened their hearts and home to a child whose mother was unable to care for them. This act of love and kindness showcases the Robertson’s true character.

Let’s all send our well wishes to Mia for a speedy recovery. She is truly a champion, and through her smiles and determination, she inspires us all.
