US Postal Service Considers Increasing Price of Stamps

It’s no secret that the cost of living keeps rising, making it harder for many people to make ends meet. And now, the US Postal Service is considering a price hike that could affect all of us. Keep reading to find out more.

US Postal Service considers increasing price of stamps this summer

According to reports, the USPS has filed a notice with its regulators to increase the price of First-Class stamps from 68 cents to 73 cents. If approved, this change would take effect in mid-July.

Over the years, we’ve seen price increases on various USPS products, but the cost of a First-Class stamp has seen a significant rise. Back in early 2019, it was priced at 50 cents. Since then, it has gone up by a staggering 36 percent.

The Postal Service last raised stamp prices in January, just a few months ago, when it increased by three cents. The USPS claims that these changes are necessary to achieve financial stability, as proposed by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in 2021.

Now, some may argue that the potential price increase is unfair, but it’s worth noting that USPS prices are still among the most affordable in the world. So, while it may be a little more expensive, it’s important to consider the value and convenience that the Postal Service provides.

The proposed price increase also extends to postcards and international mail. So, if these changes are approved, sending mail may become a bit costlier in the near future.

When we think about it, it’s true that not as many people are using First-Class mail nowadays due to online communication. But for those who still rely on traditional mail services, 73 cents for a stamp can feel like a lot.
