When you’ve lived as long as Elton John has and spent the majority of your years in the public eye, chances are you’ve got a story or two to tell. It’s no great surprise that many celebrities have a vault of secrets, but there are levels to the game. Elton John falls into the category of out-of-this-world superstars.
In his memoir, Me, Elton John unveils a collection of stories that range from hilarious to shocking and upsetting. However, it is his words about the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, that have struck a chord online.
Elton recalls meeting Jackson at a young age, describing him as “the most adorable kid you could imagine.” But over the years, Elton noticed a disturbing change in the Thriller singer. He began isolating himself from the world, much like Elvis Presley. Elton believes that Jackson’s transformation may have been fueled by his use of prescription drugs, which affected his mental well-being.
“He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around,” Elton lamented. Jackson’s later years were marred by allegations of sexual abuse against minors, which further tainted his name.
Regarding these rumors, Elton remarked, “For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all.”
In recent times, the 75-year-old Elton John has faced his own health challenges, leading to the postponement and rescheduling of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023. Despite his health setbacks, reports emerged of Elton declining an offer to perform at King Charles’s coronation concert.
