Daughter-in-law Learns a Lesson from Wise Mother-in-law

Lucy, a kind-hearted woman who had recently lost her husband, moved in with her son and daughter-in-law, Connor and Eve. She didn’t want to live alone in her grief, so she decided to stay with her family until she felt ready to be on her own. Connor worked long hours as an IT technician, so Lucy spent most of her time with Eve, who was a housewife.

At first, Eve was incredibly kind and attentive towards Lucy. She took care of all the household chores, cooking, and cleaning without accepting any help from Lucy. But as time went on, Eve’s behavior started to change. Lucy found herself doing all the chores by herself, despite her tired old knees.

One day, a few days before Christmas, Eve called Lucy while she was watching TV.

“Lucy,” Eve started, “After you finish the laundry, please go out and buy groceries for tonight’s dinner and Christmas dinner. We have nine people coming over. I’ll give you the money before you leave.”

Lucy was shocked. They always did the shopping together, but this time, Eve was ordering her around like a maid. Lucy realized that she was no longer seen as a guest in their house, but as someone who would take care of all the work.

However, Lucy had a plan to teach Eve a lesson before she left. Coming from a large family, Lucy knew how to cook and prepare meals for a large number of people. She decided to make Christmas dinner a memorable one.

When Christmas arrived, the house was filled with the delicious smells of the food Lucy had prepared. As the guests started to arrive and sit at the dinner table, one of Connor’s friends couldn’t help but compliment Lucy on the amazing food.

“Aunt Lucy,” he said, “This food is amazing! Did you cook all of it yourself?”

With a proud smile, Lucy replied, “I did, Ross.”

She saw the pride in Connor’s eyes too, knowing that his mother had received such praise. However, Eve couldn’t help but feel envious of the attention Lucy was getting. She approached Lucy after dinner, realizing her mistake.

“Lucy, can we talk?” Eve asked sincerely.

“Of course, Darling,” Lucy responded, open to the conversation.

“I didn’t realize how much you do around the house. I wanted to take it easy, so I added it to your load. I’m so sorry,” Eve confessed.

Lucy smiled, knowing that Eve had learned her lesson. “It’s more than fine,” Lucy started. “I just need you to understand that even though I want to help around the house, I’m old, and my knees aren’t the same anymore.”

Eve, realizing the importance of their teamwork, offered to make Lucy a cup of tea and insisted that they relax together.

In the end, Lucy’s clever teaching moment brought understanding and unity to their relationship. Both mother-in-law and daughter-in-law learned the value of considering each other’s limitations and working together as a team.
