A Grandson’s Selfless Act: Quitting His Job to Care for His 96-Year-Old Grandma

Grandson quits job, gives up everything to become 96-year-old grandma's full-time caregiver

We all like to think that there’s nothing we wouldn’t do to ensure the happiness and well-being of our family members. But as we grow older and have families of our own, it becomes increasingly challenging to drop everything and help a loved one in need. However, there are exceptional individuals like Chris Punsalan who are willing to go above and beyond.

Chris, a content creator and musician from the Philippines, had a comfortable life in Nevada, but his grandmother, aged 96, lived alone in the Philippines. Everything was fine until his grandmother ran out of caregivers. While his family considered sending her to a care home, Chris made an extraordinary decision – he would become his grandmother’s full-time caregiver and move back to the Philippines.

When asked about his decision, Chris said, “She took care of me, and I would hate to see her go to homecare, which is where I feel most grandparents go in America. They go to home care because nobody is able to take care of them.”

Chris already had a following online thanks to his work as a content creator, but he never expected his decision to go viral. He shared his journey as a caregiver through videos, giving people a glimpse into his life and a typical day with his grandmother. It wasn’t always easy, as he sometimes had to remind her who he was. But through this experience, Chris realized how fragile and short life can be.

Despite living away from the rest of his family and sacrificing a lot, Chris considers himself fortunate to be able to spend so much time with his elderly relative. His compassionate nature and selflessness serve as an inspiration to us all.
