Nine months ago, Hallie Kyed, the two-year-old daughter of beloved sports reporter Doug Kyed, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Tragically, as Doug shared on Instagram, Hallie passed away on January 21, leaving her family devastated.
According to Doug, Hallie’s condition took a turn for the worse when she relapsed following a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, her chemotherapy stopped working.
“She made a positive impact on so many people she met,” Doug wrote, emphasizing Hallie’s special nature. Despite her young age, she was a bright light in the lives of those around her. Doug and his wife, Jen, consider themselves fortunate to have been her parents, and Hallie’s older sister Olivia was lucky to have such an amazing baby sister.
While they were aware of the poor prognosis, the family held on to hope for remission because of Hallie’s bravery and resilience throughout her nine-month battle. Despite the efforts of the doctors and staff at Boston Children’s Hospital, Hallie’s aggressive form of leukemia grew out of control after the transplant.
Doug fondly recalled Hallie’s sweet nature and her love for her family. She would demand walks around the hospital floor, and when he took her out of her crib, she would give him little pats on the back. He described her as a beautiful, naturally funny little girl who was destined to be a star in dance class. The hospital staff loved seeing which princess dress she would wear each day.
Losing Hallie has left a void in the world, but Doug hopes that people can learn from his daughter’s spirit. He encourages others to know what they want and to be persistent in pursuing it, just as Hallie did. She knew how to make her desires known, whether it was going for a walk or wearing a particular Disney dress.
As the Kyed family prepares to lay Hallie to rest on January 26, we offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers. In this difficult time, we remember Hallie as a little star who touched the lives of everyone she met.
