A Simple Guide to Growing Pineapples in Water at Home

1. Getting Started

Selecting the Pineapple:
Choose a pineapple with fresh, firm, green leaves. Avoid pineapples with yellow or brown leaves, as they may be too ripe or unhealthy.
Removing the Crown:
Hold the pineapple firmly in one hand, and twist the crown with the other until it detaches from the fruit. Try to keep the crown intact, as this is the part that will be grown in water.
Preparing the Crown:
Expose the stem by removing the lower leaves of the crown. Take off about 1-2 inches of leaves from the bottom. This will help the roots grow.

2. Growing the Pineapple in Water

Placing the Crown in Water:
Take a glass or a jar and fill it with water. Submerge the prepared crown, making sure the bottom part of the stem is in the water. But keep the leaves out of the water.
Providing Sunlight:
Find a sunny spot for the glass or jar. Pineapples love sunlight, so make sure they get at least 6-8 hours of sunshine daily.
Changing the Water:
Every 2-3 days, change the water to keep it fresh and prevent bacteria or mold growth.
Root Growth:
In about 2-3 weeks, small roots will begin to grow from the bottom of the stem. Once the roots reach about 3-4 inches in length, it’s time to transplant the pineapple into soil.

3. Transplanting the Pineapple

Preparing the Pot:
Use a pot that is at least 12 inches wide and has drainage holes at the bottom. Fill it with well-draining soil mix.
Planting the Pineapple:
Plant the pineapple in the center of the pot, burying the roots and stem up to the base of the leaves.
Watering:
After planting, thoroughly water the pineapple. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged.
Caring for the Pineapple:
Place the pot in a sunny spot and make sure to water regularly. Pineapples thrive with plenty of sunlight and water.
