Ava Skye was born into a world filled with love and hope. Her first year was filled with joy and laughter. But when she turned 13 months old, everything changed. Ava was diagnosed with a rare muscular cancer that hindered her growth and caused her endless discomfort.
Magalli Jimenez, a strong and determined mother, stood by her daughter’s side every step of the way. She believed in the treatment plan outlined by the oncologist and hoped for the best. Ava underwent grueling chemotherapy sessions, and after multiple rounds of treatment, she was declared in remission. The family rejoiced, thinking the battle was won. Little did they know, it was just the beginning.
In July 2022, the cancer resurfaced. Doctors informed the family that the cancer was resistant to therapy, leaving surgery as the only option. But due to Ava’s young age, the chances of a successful recovery were slim. The family was devastated. They realized they would only have a few precious days or weeks left with their beloved daughter.
Magalli made the heart-wrenching decision to place Ava in hospice care, wanting to make her final days as comfortable as possible. She created a bucket list for Ava, determined to do everything they had ever dreamed of together. While the pain was unbearable, Magalli continued to smile and laugh with her child, cherishing every moment.
A close friend of Magalli’s, Davina Galvan, started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the family. The goal was to provide financial support so that Magalli could fulfill every wish on Ava’s bucket list. The outpouring of love and generosity from the community was overwhelming, a testament to the impact Ava had on everyone she touched.v
On August 22, 2022, Skye peacefully passed away in her mother’s arms. Her frail body could hardly stand, but her spirit remained strong. The day before she died, she looked her mother in the eyes and sang her favorite song, “I love you. You love me. We are a happy family. With a great big hug and a kiss kiss.” Magalli captured this precious moment on video, wanting to keep the memory alive and share her daughter’s beautiful soul with the world.
Magalli’s heart will forever ache for her beloved daughter. The pain of losing a child is unimaginable. But she finds solace in the promise she made to Ava – to live for her. She urges everyone to hold their children a little tighter, even when they drive us insane.
