A Special Cat Finds a Loving Home

Every shelter animal deserves a loving home, even if they are a little different. Animals with differences and disabilities need families who will embrace and love them just the way they are. That was the case for Gumby, a shelter cat born with severely deformed back legs. But thanks to the kindness of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell and an amazing adopter, Gumby now has a loving new home.

Gumby was one of the cats taken in by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. But among the group, Gumby stood out with his severely deformed legs. The shelter shared on Facebook, “We’ve never seen a cat quite like him.” Despite his unusual deformity, Gumby doesn’t let anything hold him back. He’s learned to get around, walk, use the litter box, and behaves just like any normal kitten.

The shelter’s veterinarians are exploring ways to manage Gumby’s condition, but since he is comfortable and can function on his own, no immediate action is needed. “He is able to get around and he acts like a regular kitten – he loves attention and can be a little mischievous,” the shelter said. “He doesn’t let anything get him down!”

The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell was looking for a special family who could provide a forever home for Gumby, one that could accommodate his special needs and have a close relationship with a veterinarian. And the good news is that Gumby’s journey has a happy ending!

Gumby with his new owner

Since this story was first reported, there has been an inspiring update: Gumby has been adopted! The lucky adopter is Danielle Murr, an animal advocate and local radio personality from the North Shore in Massachusetts. Gumby will have siblings in his new home – a dog, a cat, and even a hamster!

Danielle was drawn to Gumby because she has a lot of experience living with cats that have special needs. She knows exactly how to ensure that Gumby lives his best possible life. “We’re so excited that he found such a perfect match!” Sara-Rose Brenner of MSPCA-Angell said.

Gumby couldn’t have asked for a better home. Danielle will provide him with the specific environment he needs to thrive. With her loving care, Gumby will be able to live a happy life, just like any other cat.
