The truth is that sometimes, no matter what you tell them, people just don’t listen! This was the case with a repairman who went to fix Laura’s dishwasher. It’s common for repairmen to encounter surprising situations in other people’s homes, but this particular handyman was given very clear instructions on what not to do that day. Here is the amusing story.
Laura’s dishwasher had stopped working, so she called in a repairman. Since she had to work the next day, she left specific instructions. She said, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you a check. Oh, and don’t worry about my bulldog, Bob. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot! I repeat, do NOT talk to my parrot!”
The next day, the repairman arrived at Laura’s apartment. As promised, he found the key under the mat and let himself in. He was greeted by the biggest, meanest-looking bulldog he had ever seen. But, just as Laura had said, the dog lay calmly on the carpet, watching as the repairman worked.
The repairman’s main challenge, however, was not the bulldog. It was Laura’s parrot. The parrot squawked, cursed, and called the repairman names nonstop. The noise was relentless and increasingly unbearable. Finally, unable to contain his irritation any longer, the repairman yelled at the bird, “Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!”
To his astonishment, the parrot responded, “Get him, Bob!”
