Merrill admits that she lacked knowledge about food allergies and didn’t have a deep understanding of their potential severity. In the past, she would chuckle at jokes on TV about “peanut” allergies or scoff when she heard someone ordering a “gluten-free” meal in restaurants.
However, her own son was living with risks. Oakley had asthma and had tested mild positive for peanut and tree nut allergies.
