The Teenage Diver Who Amazed The Internet With A ‘No Splash’ Dive Has Won The Gold

In every sport, athletes strive to reach specific goals. Runners aim to finish fast, weightlifters lift as much as they can, and for divers, it’s all about the splash – or rather, the lack of it.

Recently, a video of a highly skilled Olympic diver resurfaced, even though it had been a year since the event. This 17-year-old diver managed to dive into the water without creating any noticeable splash, leaving viewers astounded.

This incredible diver, Quan Hongchan from China, wowed the judges at the World Cup last year with her seemingly splash-free entry into the water. With the video making rounds again, it continues to leave people amazed.

Earlier this year, Quan also clinched two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. One of her gold-winning dives was so flawless that she earned a perfect score of 10 from every judge. The resurfaced video, taken from the 2023 World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Montréal, Canada, showcases her exceptional skill and talent.

As reported by the Olympics website, Quan scored a remarkable 425.60 points, ranking first in four out of her five dives. Only her third dive ranked second among the 12 finalists. Impressively, her teammate also secured the silver medal with 420.70 points.

Following her monumental win, footage of Quan’s nearly splash-free dive from the previous year, when she was around 16 years old, began to circulate online once more.

On Twitter, the footage was shared with the caption: “Quan Hongchan wins gold with a dive so flawless the water doesn’t even splash.” Indeed, her execution of a ‘back three-and-a-half somersaults tuck’ left viewers in utter awe.

The 17-year-old Chinese diver, Quan Hongchan, received a perfect 10/10 score from all seven judges for her flawless dive.

Many who watched the video couldn’t believe how it was possible for someone to dive into the water without making a splash. I have to agree, as my dives typically end with a large splash – more of a cannonball effect!
