Skydiving star Freddy Chase recently shared the heartbreaking news that his wife, Devrey Jane LaRiccia-Chase, had passed away in a tragic accident. Devrey, a Californian skydiving instructor, was known for her passion for the sport and her full-time dedication to it.
In a touching tribute on Instagram, Chase expressed his gratitude for the love and support he had received following this devastating event. He also revealed the details surrounding the accident that led to his wife’s untimely death.
On the day of the accident, Devrey was excited to start her work at Skydive Perris. As a tandem instructor, she embarked on her last jump with a student. Everything seemed normal until she encountered what is known in the skydiving community as “dust devils” – small tornadoes that pose a danger to those in the sport.
Devrey managed to avoid one of the dust devils at around 40 feet, but unfortunately, she was caught by a second one. These invisible tornadoes can be particularly treacherous as they don’t always raise any dust, making them difficult to detect. The sudden encounter with the dust devil caused her canopy to spin uncontrollably.
Tragically, Devrey was still alive but unconscious when she landed. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Chase had initially posted a video of his late wife before removing it out of consideration for the proximity to her death.
Before sharing the news of his wife’s passing, Chase had penned a heartfelt tribute to her on Instagram, referring to her as his soul, his love, and his everything. Expressing the pain and difficulty of saying goodbye, Chase spoke of the profound love he had for his late wife and referred to her as his angel.
The outpouring of support and condolences from friends, fans, and acquaintances on Chase’s post was a testament to the impact Devrey had on those who knew her. She was described as a shining light in the world.
Since her passing, Chase has been sharing pictures and videos of Devrey on his Instagram Stories, allowing those who loved her to reminisce and remember her fondly. To assist the family in bringing Devrey’s body back to Maine, where she was born and raised, her family set up a GoFundMe page. Generous donations have poured in, surpassing $53,000 in just a short period.
Devrey’s family expressed gratitude for the support they received, acknowledging the love and generosity shown during this difficult time. The heartfelt messages and contributions have provided some comfort during their grieving process.
