Tim Walz Reaffirms Support for Biden-Harris Border Agenda After Being Named VP Candidate

Democratic pollster ‘disappointed’ in Kamala Harris’ selection of Tim Walz as VP

Democratic pollster Mark Penn and Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich react to Vice President Kamala Harris’ pick for her running mate as critics suggest antisemitism in the Democratic Party fueled the decision on ‘The Story.’

EXCLUSIVE: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has reaffirmed his support for the Biden administration’s immigration policies and border management solutions.

In a statement shared with Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the Harris-Walz campaign said, “Governor Walz supports the bipartisan border deal and the Biden-Harris administration’s executive actions on the border that brought border crossings to the lowest level in four years.”

This is the first time Walz has publicly supported these measures since being announced as Kamala Harris’s Vice Presidential running mate.

“Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us,” Walz, a former teacher, wrote on X.

Walz’s handling of immigration issues in Minnesota has already drawn attention from Republicans. During a 2018 interview with CBS News, he expressed support for “sanctuary” policies, emphasizing that local law enforcement should not be tasked with enforcing federal immigration laws.

“Congress has given federal agencies the authority to enforce immigration laws in Minnesota, and I support their doing so. Congress has not given local law enforcement that same authority. The role of law enforcement is to enforce state and local laws, not federal immigration laws, and I strongly believe that they should not do so,” Walz explained.

Republicans have criticized Walz for policies allowing undocumented migrants to obtain driver’s licenses and access state-funded healthcare plans.

The decision to promote Walz’s position on more stringent border policies suggests that Democrats intend to take a more active role on immigration – a traditionally Republican stronghold – in this election cycle.

VANCE BORDER SPEECH HITS HARRIS IN LATEST BARRAGE OF ATTACKS BETWEEN CAMPAIGNS ON MIGRANT CRISIS

The bipartisan border deal emerged from extensive negotiations led by Senators Kyrsten Sinema and James Lankford. However, many House and Senate Republicans opposed the deal, arguing it did not do enough to address the migrant crisis. They believed it would only formalize the Biden administration’s progressive border policies.

Walz, like many Democrats, blamed former President Donald Trump for the bill’s failure. He accused Trump of prioritizing his political agenda over border security.

“Donald Trump sunk the bipartisan border security bill so he could run on the issue. He’d rather play politics for his benefit than secure our border. Kamala Harris will make sure we pass the damn thing,” Walz stated on CNN.

Walz also supports Biden’s executive orders concerning the border, including a proclamation restricting migration between ports of entry during high-encounter periods. According to the Department of Homeland Security, this order has helped reduce encounters at the Southwest Border by 55%.

Despite these measures, the southwestern border has seen a significant number of migrant encounters throughout Biden’s term.

Biden’s proclamation faced criticism from his progressive allies, including Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán.
