Fox News’ CB Cotton provides updates on the FBI’s investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Former President Trump has announced plans to hold a rally in the same Pennsylvania town where he was wounded in an assassination attempt earlier this month.

Trump was injured in the ear while speaking to supporters in Butler on July 13. The alleged shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was quickly neutralized by a U.S. Secret Service sniper.

Trump announced on social media, “I WILL BE GOING BACK TO BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA, FOR A BIG AND BEAUTIFUL RALLY, HONORING THE SOUL OF OUR BELOVED FIREFIGHTING HERO, COREY, AND THOSE BRAVE PATRIOTS INJURED TWO WEEKS AGO. WHAT A DAY IT WILL BE—FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS.”

The shooting occurred while Trump was discussing President Biden’s immigration policies. Crooks managed to fire eight shots with an AR-style rifle before being stopped. One spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured.

The event has raised serious questions about security. The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned this week following criticism over how the shooter was able to get so close.

Cheatle admitted to a House committee, “The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed.” She also apologized to Trump directly.

The Secret Service has advised the Trump campaign to avoid large outdoor rallies in certain situations following the attack.
