Woman Caught Shoplifting Tells Police She Was Just “Playing A Game”

Amber McCann, a 30-year-old woman from Florida, recently made headlines when she was caught shoplifting over $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Walmart store in Palm Coast. What made this incident particularly bizarre was McCann’s claim that she considered her actions to be part of a “game” and found it “really fun.”

The incident took place on Monday, March 25, and was captured on bodycam footage released by The Flager County Sheriff’s Office. In the footage, one officer can be heard confronting McCann about the theft. Surprisingly, McCann displayed a nonchalant attitude and candidly admitted to being the one responsible. She even went on to explain that the theft was part of a game called “21,” where participants try to grab as much merchandise as they can and leave the store without paying, all while avoiding getting caught.

However, the police officer was quick to dismiss McCann’s explanation, reminding her that what she did was not a game but a serious crime. Despite this, McCann appeared unfazed and even laughed as she asked the officer if she would be going to jail.

Shoplifting in Florida can have severe consequences, depending on the value of the stolen goods. For amounts ranging from $100 to $300, it is considered a first-degree misdemeanor, carrying a potential punishment of up to 1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine. For larger amounts, the penalties increase significantly, with shoplifting over $20,000 classified as a second-degree felony, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Initially, McCann tried to distance herself from the stolen items, claiming that she had placed them in a random car and left when she saw the police in the area. However, she later admitted that the car belonged to her boyfriend. Although she insisted that he was unaware of her illegal activities, authorities discovered not only the stolen merchandise but also illegal drugs, including marijuana, hashish, methamphetamine, and alprazolam, inside the car. Additionally, deputies found various precious metal bars inside a locked safe in the vehicle.

As a result of her actions, McCann is now facing multiple charges, including grand theft, possession of marijuana, hashish, alprazolam, drug paraphernalia, and trafficking in methamphetamine.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of engaging in criminal behavior and the importance of respecting the law. McCann’s cavalier attitude towards theft underscores the need for greater awareness and accountability in society, as well as the potential dangers of substance abuse and illegal drug trafficking. Let’s remember to always make responsible choices and uphold the values of honesty and integrity.
