MY BROTHER’S BACHELOR PARTY

My wife, Allison, and I have been together for 25 years. Lately, she started saying that I don’t spend much time with her and don’t love her anymore. It’s been hard for me as I’ve been working a lot at my new job, and then I come home and hear this.

Yesterday, I was at my brother’s bachelor party and was sure that Allison would argue with me afterward or maybe file for divorce. But to my SHOCK, I woke up and found a rose, a glass of water, two Advil tablets, and a note from her on my bedside table.

Hi honey, the pills are for your headache. When you’re ready, come down to the kitchen and I’ll fix your favorite breakfast. Love you!

WHY is she SO kind?! What is going on? I went down to the kitchen and found Allison happily dancing around in her apron. She danced up to me and gave me a loving kiss. I found my son there too and quietly asked him,

Me: Hey, do you know what’s up with Mom?

Him: Don’t you remember that you…

He trailed off, grinning.

Me: That I what?

Him: That you had a little too much to drink last night and started pouring your heart out to her.

Me: What? No, I didnโ€™t.

Him: Oh, yes. You did.

I sat down, still groggy, trying to piece together the night. Allison placed a plate of pancakes in front of me, her eyes filled with warmth.

Me: What did I say?

Allison chuckled. “Well, for starters, you kept telling me how much you missed me. You said you regretted working so much and not spending enough time with me. You even cried a little and said you were afraid I didn’t love you anymore.”

I nearly choked on my coffee. “I cried?!”

“Oh, yes, my dear husband. You were a sentimental mess. But it was the most honest youโ€™ve been in years.”

I buried my face in my hands. My son laughed. “Yeah, Dad, you were all over Mom, hugging her, saying you were the luckiest man in the world. It was kinda sweetโ€ฆ but also really funny.”

I looked up at Allison, feeling both embarrassed and touched. “And youโ€™re not mad?”

“Mad? No, honey. It was exactly what I needed to hear.”

I let out a breath, the weight on my chest suddenly lifting. Maybe I hadnโ€™t realized how much she needed to hear those thingsโ€”things I had always felt but stopped saying over the years.

“Well,” I said, reaching for her hand, “drunk or not, I meant every word.”

She smiled. “Then show me. Let’s start fresh, just like we used to. Letโ€™s make time for each other again.”

I nodded, realizing how much I had taken our love for granted. “Deal.”

That day, I turned off my phone, took her on a spontaneous day trip, and held her hand the entire time. We laughed like we hadn’t in years.

Sometimes, all a marriage needs is a little reminder of why it started in the first place.

If this story touched you, share it with someone who might need a reminder to cherish the ones they love. โค๏ธ
