Steve McQueen’s only son, Chad McQueen, widely recognized for his role as Dutch in the Karate Kid films, has passed away at his ranch in Palm Desert, California.

According to his longtime attorney, Arthur Barens, Chad sadly died on Wednesday, September 13, 2024, due to organ failure, TMZ reported.

At the time of his death, the beloved actor was surrounded by his children, his partner, and his attorney.

Insiders have shared that Chad’s health took a downward turn following an injury a few years ago, which gradually led to organ failure and ultimately caused his passing.

Chad McQueen, the sole son of the legendary Steve McQueen, was a loving father to Steven, Chase, and Madison McQueen. His son Steven announced the heartbreaking news on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute to his father.

Steven wrote: “His remarkable journey as a loving father to us, along with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication.”

In his emotional post, Steven emphasized how his father’s passion for racing had profoundly influenced him. Chad’s love for motorsports, passed down from his father Steve McQueen, deeply shaped his life. “He passed his passion, knowledge, and dedication down to us, and we will continue not only his legacy but our grandfather’s as well,” Steven shared.

As the McQueen family mourns their loss, they have requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time. Steven’s Instagram post received an outpouring of support from friends, fans, and followers.

One user commented: “Chad will always be missed. Love you guys,” while another fan wrote: “Truly heartbroken. He was a kind and caring gentleman.”

Another heartfelt message read: “I just don’t know what to say other than I’m so blessed to have met him, and my thoughts are with the entire McQueen family. Rest in peace, mate.”

Chad McQueen is lovingly remembered for his role as Dutch in 1984’s The Karate Kid and its sequel, The Karate Kid II (1986).

Being the son of Steve McQueen, Chad was surrounded by the world of film and motorsports. His father introduced him to motorcycles at a young age, and by nine, Chad was racing competitively.

He shared with Flick Feast in 2017: “I started racing at nine. It was a way for us to bond and spend weekends together, not throwing the ball around but racing motorcycles. I looked up to my dad and he’s someone I aspired to be as fast as.”

Chad’s passion for racing led him to participate in numerous competitions, including the Baja 1000 and Motocross. At just 12 years old, he won the World Mini Grand Prix, showcasing his talent and determination early on. However, his racing career faced a tragic setback in 2006 during a practice session for a Grand Am GT Class race.

An unfortunate accident resulted in Chad sustaining severe injuries, including a shattered leg and multiple broken vertebrae. His recovery process was long and challenging, but Chad’s determination never faltered. He committed himself to extensive physical therapy to regain his strength.

Despite the long-term effects of his accident, Chad remained active, enjoying hiking, swimming, and even contemplating a return to racing. As the founder of McQueen Racing, Chad’s legacy in motorsports continues through his influence and his son Steven, who honors his father’s passion for racing.

Though Chad McQueen is no longer with us, his contributions to both Hollywood and the racing world are everlasting. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Chad McQueen’s family during this challenging time.
