In a recent Rasmussen Reports survey conducted after the Sept. 10 debate, former President Donald Trump maintains a 2-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for the White House. The results show that 49% of voters back Trump, while 47% back Harris.
According to the survey, Trump continues to enjoy strong support from Republican voters, with 85% backing him, while Harris receives 80% support from Democrat voters. Among voters not affiliated with the major parties, Trump leads with 49% support to Harris’ 45%. This indicates that Harris has closed the gap among independent voters.
The breakdown by gender reveals that Trump holds a 9-point lead among men (52% to 43%), while Harris has a 5-point lead among women (50% to 45%). In terms of age groups, Harris leads among voters under 40 with a 1-point margin, and Trump leads by 6 points among those aged 40-64. Interestingly, Trump has a 3-point lead among voters 65 and older.
When it comes to political ideology, self-identified liberals overwhelmingly support Harris at 85%, while conservatives heavily favor Trump at 73%. Among moderate voters, Harris leads with 54% compared to Trump’s 41%.
Furthermore, the survey breaks down voters by income categories. Among those earning between $100,000 and $200,000 annually, Harris leads by a significant margin of 60% to 36%. On the other hand, Trump holds a strong advantage among voters with incomes between $50,000 and $100,000, leading with 56% to 40%.
In terms of racial breakdown, the majority of whites (53%) say they would vote for Trump, while a significant percentage of Blacks (65%), Hispanics (48%), and other minorities (48%) express support for Harris. Among Blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities, Trump still receives noteworthy support.
The Rasmussen Reports’ national telephone and online survey, conducted between Sept. 12 and Sept. 18, involved 1,855 likely voters. The survey has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
