2024 MTV VMAs: Eminem kicks off show with epic performance of ‘Houdini’

Eminem opened the 2024 MTV Music Video Awards in an unforgettable and high-energy fashion. The legendary rapper kicked off the night with a mesmerizing performance of his new single “Houdini,” from his latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady.”

Sporting a black T-shirt and his signature bleached hair, Eminem brought a touch of nostalgia to the stage, alongside a troupe of his well-known alter egos. Fans were thrilled by a skit featuring a lookalike of his younger self.

The surprises didn’t stop there. Eminem was virtually joined by Jelly Roll to perform their hit collaboration “Somebody Save Me.” Although Jelly Roll couldn’t attend the event in person due to his touring commitments, his virtual presence added a unique twist to the performance.

“The Death of Slim Shady” was released in July, featuring standout tracks such as “Renaissance,” “Brand New Dance,” and, of course, “Houdini.” Eminem’s return to the VMAs stage is a significant moment, marking his first show opening in over a decade. The last time he opened the show was back in 2010, with memorable renditions of “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” alongside Rihanna.

In 2022, Eminem teamed up with Snoop Dogg to deliver an electrifying performance of “From the D 2 The LBC.” This year, he’s in the running for eight VMA nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Summer.
