Simone Biles learned a valuable lesson about sports rivalries the hard way last month. She wore a Green Bay Packers jacket to a Bears preseason game against the Bengals, and boy, did she hear about it! But now, she’s trying to make amends.

The reason behind her choice of the Packers jacket was simple: she was there to cheer on her husband Jonathan Owens, who is a new safety for the Bears but played for Green Bay last season. The jacket was a special design featuring photos of Owens during his time with the Packers. However, Bears fans were not pleased to see her sporting the rival’s colors in their stadium.

After being inundated with posts from irate Bears fans, Biles decided to take action. On Friday, she mentioned that she has since bought a lot more Bears gear. “Yes, I have plenty now,” she assured, leaving the Global Summit on Women’s Mental Health.

Initially, Biles seemed unfazed by the backlash. Shortly after she was first seen in that Packers jacket, she posted a photograph of herself wearing it next to Owens with a cheeky caption, “Bear Down.” Owens even shared her post to his Instagram stories and left a couple of supportive heart emojis in Bears colors.

Jonathan Owens joined the Bears in March, signing a two-year deal after a standout season in Green Bay. Last year, Owens scored his first career touchdown and started 11 games for the Packers. His performance helped Green Bay reach the playoffs, and he shone brightly in those crucial games.

Now with the Bears, Owens aims to contribute to a team that has not seen playoff action in the last two seasons. And what better way for Biles to support her husband than to be a regular sight at Bears games, now fully decked out in Chicago colors. This should definitely make her a favorite on the jumbotron at Solider Field.

But sports fandom aside, Simone Biles continues to add to her storied legacy. At the Paris Olympics this summer, she won three gold medals, cementing her status as the most decorated American gymnast in history. What’s more, she achieved these feats as one of the oldest competitors in Olympic gymnastics at 27 years young. This remarkable comeback came after withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to a bout of the twisties.

Speaking about his wife, Owens expressed immense pride, “Man, I’m super proud. Just because I see the work that she put in, and I saw what she went through. And just for her to be able to come back, no fear, continue to dominate the way that she has, man, is just amazing. It’s a testament to the person that she is and her confidence and training to the work that she puts in. I can’t wait to keep watching her dreams come true.”
