Mariah Carey’s mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, passed away on the same day this past weekend, as reported by People.
In a statement shared with the outlet, Carey confirmed the deeply saddening news.
“My heart is broken to share that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day,” she mentioned.

Carey expressed her gratitude for the time she recently spent with her mother.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and request privacy during this impossible time.”
No further details regarding the deaths were disclosed. Carey’s representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for additional comments.

The Grammy-winning singer has had a turbulent relationship with both her sister and mother in the past.

In 2020, Alison sued their mother, Patricia, claiming that she was subjected to sexual abuse by multiple men during satanic worship meetings when she was a child.
Alison claimed that her mother permitted and even encouraged several men to engage in inappropriate acts with her, including sexual assault, while she was a child.

These events reportedly happened during late-night meetings which included ritual sacrifices.
Mariah also opened up about her complex relationship with her mother in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”

She wrote, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions,” according to People.
“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s,” she continued.
Despite the complications, Carey dedicated part of her memoir to her mother.
“And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could,” Carey wrote. “I will love you as best I can, always.”
