Lord Robert Fellowes, a revered figure within the British Royal Family and close confidant to Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana, has passed away at the age of 82.

Lord Fellowes held deep family connections, being the uncle to Prince William and Prince Harry. He married Lady Jane Spencer, the sister of the late Princess Diana, and together they had three children: Alexander, Eleanor, and Laura.

During the 1990s, a notably tumultuous period for the Royal Family, Lord Fellowes served as the private secretary to Queen Elizabeth. He navigated through significant events such as the divorces of Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles, the separation of Fergie and Prince Andrew, and the dissolution of Princess Anne’s marriage to Mark Phillips.

He also played a critical role in managing the aftermath of the devastating Windsor Castle fire in 1992, which destroyed 115 rooms.

In 1997, during his tenure, the tragic car crash occurred that claimed the lives of Princess Diana, her partner Dodi Fayed, her driver Henri Paul, and her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones. The crash happened as they tried to escape paparazzi in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.

Following the tragic event, Lord Fellowes strongly denied allegations from Mohamed Al Fayed, Dodi’s father and owner of Harrods, accusing him of being part of a conspiracy to murder Diana and Dodi.

According to The Times, Lord Fellowes’ obituary announced he died on July 29 of undisclosed causes.

Charles Spencer, brother of Lady Di, paid a heartfelt tribute to his brother-in-law on social media.

“My absolutely exceptional brother-in-law, Robert, is no longer with us,” he wrote on X. “A total gentleman — in all the best meanings of that word. He was a man of humour, wisdom, and utter integrity. I’m deeply proud to have been his brother-in-law.”

Lord Fellowes’ father, Sir William “Billy” Fellowes, served as the land agent at the Royal Family’s Sandringham Estate for 30 years. Remarkably, Sandringham was also where Lord Fellowes was born.

“Robert is the only one of my private secretaries I have held in my arms,” the late Queen Elizabeth once said, according to The Times.

In recognition of his service, Lord Fellowes was honoured with the title of Baron Fellowes of Shotesham in the County of Norfolk.
