No friend in the world is as faithful and affectionate as a dog.
Just ask Byron, a 25-year-old from Gloucester, England, who owes his life to his loyal companion, Geo.
Byron fell into deep depression after the end of a relationship. He turned to alcohol to numb his pain and drown out his despair.
After months of excessive drinking, Byron reached a point where he could see no way out. He made a noose and wrote a farewell letter to his family, ready to end his life.
But there was someone in the house who wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Geo, his six-year-old Welsh bullmastiff, intervened in a remarkable way.
One dreadful day, Byron prepared to end it all. With a heavy heart and a drunk mind, he created a noose and went downstairs to pen a final goodbye to his loved ones.
When he returned, he was startled to see Geo holding the noose in his mouth. Geo had sensed Byron’s distress and took the rope while Byron was writing his letter.
At first, Byron thought Geo wanted to play. But when he tried to retrieve the rope, Geo’s demeanor changed. The dog growled, showing his teeth to deter Byron from taking it back.
When Geo finally released the rope, it was in pieces. Byron was moved by his dog’s determined act.
Byron credits Geo for saving his life. “In a way, I think Geo knew what I was going to do. They have a sixth sense about this kind of thing. He knew something was up,” Byron reflects.
Geo’s intuition and quick action halted Byron’s tragic plan, prompting him to seek help and start battling his depression.
However, life threw another curveball at Byron a few years later. Geo was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor and given only days to live.
Byron started a fundraiser online to cover Geo’s medical expenses, but despite his efforts, the veterinarians couldn’t save his beloved dog.
Although nothing could cure Geo, Byron dedicated himself to making Geo’s last days as wonderful as possible.
Now, after losing his best friend, Byron remains eternally grateful for the greatest gift Geo ever gave him… the gift of life.
