In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Nelons, a well-known and cherished gospel family in the United States, were involved in a devastating plane crash that claimed the lives of all on board. The tragedy took place as they were en route to a concert, leaving the nation mourning the loss of these beloved individuals.
The plane crash, which occurred over Wyoming, took the lives of seven people, including Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber, and Nathan Kistler, their son-in-law. Also among the victims were Melanie Hodges, a dedicated member of the family’s team, and Larry Haynie, the pilot, and his wife Melissa. However, Autumn Nelon Streetman, the sole surviving member of the group, was not on the plane at the time.
As news of the crash spread, it was revealed that the Nelons and their bandmates were headed to Alaska to participate in the Gaither Homecoming Cruise. The plane, tragically engulfed in flames, crashed into the ground, prompting firefighters and emergency workers to rush to the scene as a wildfire broke out.
The sheriff’s office in Wyoming confirmed that there were no survivors. In the wake of this devastating tragedy, Autumn Nelon Streetman released a heartfelt statement, saying, “As many of you know by now, my parents, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister Amber, brother-in-law Nathan, and our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were in a terrible plane crash on Friday.”
Streetman expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from the community, extending her thanks for the prayers that have been said for her, her husband Jamie, their soon-to-be-born son, and Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark.
“We are deeply touched by the love and support we have received and know that it will help us navigate through the difficult days ahead,” Streetman added. She also shared a heartfelt plea for continued prayers, love, and support during these trying times.
A poignant video captured moments before the fateful flight shows Jason speaking to his family and the pilot on a Nebraska runway, his face adorned with a warm smile.
The plane involved in the tragic accident was a Pilatus PC-12/47E owned by Haynie Enterprises, as reported by FlightAware.com. Now, the National Transportation Safety Board will thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash in an effort to uncover the cause.
Recognized for their immense contributions to gospel music, the Nelons were inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016. Their legacy as one of the most significant families in US gospel history is widely acknowledged and celebrated.
Some of their most popular songs include “I Shall Not Be Moved,” “Come Morning,” and “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown.” Throughout their career, the Nelons garnered three Grammy nominations, further solidifying their status as influential figures in the world of gospel music.
