The most devastating thing a parent could ever face is to lose their child. When it happens to more than one child at the same time, however, it is beyond what any of us could ever imagine.
Sadly, a father named Brian Trumbl endured this heartbreaking experience on August 1, 2024. His two daughters had set out for an exciting day at an amusement park in Rochester, New York, but tragically, they never made it back home.
When Brian noticed his daughters hadn’t checked in or come back, he sent several text messages, hoping to hear from them. After receiving no replies, he used the app Find My Friends to locate their phones.
Hurriedly, he drove to the location only to find that the police had already cordoned off the road due to a car accident. Heartbreakingly, both his daughters had passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash.
His oldest daughter, Hailey, was just 19 years old, and her younger sister, Shelby, only 17. Both their lives were tragically cut short in that devastating accident.
Reports from the Sheriff’s office explained that the sisters were driving a Chevy Cobalt heading east on Ira Hill Road. The car crested a hill, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with another vehicle, a westbound 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was driven by Robin Latham, a 59-year-old from Tully, NY.
Robin survived the accident and was reported to be in stable condition at Syracuse University Hospital. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the authorities have not yet determined the exact cause.
To support Brian’s family with medical bills and funeral expenses, a funding page was created and has exceeded its initial goal, thanks to the kindness and generosity of the community.
The local school district, where the girls had graduated, shared their grief in a public statement: “This is an incredibly sad day for our students, faculty, and colleagues, and a tremendous loss for the entire community.”
The community mourns with Brian and his family, offering thoughts and prayers for Hailey and Shelby. May the girls rest in peace.
