Colonel Sanders’ nephew has let the cat out of the bag, sharing KFC’s secret chicken recipe and thrilling fans who have always craved to recreate that iconic taste at home.

A recent revelation has created quite a buzz in the culinary world.

The nephew of KFC founder, Colonel Sanders, has come forward with what he claims to be the original secret recipe that has made the fast-food chain’s chicken so delectable over the years.

This famous recipe, known for its distinctive blend of flavors, has been a closely guarded secret for decades.

Many KFC fans have long speculated about what makes their chicken taste so good, and now, they might finally get the answers they’ve been searching for.

KFC founder Colonel Sanders’ nephew reveals the fast-food brand’s top-secret recipe

Joe Ledington, nephew of KFC founder Harland David Sanders, has revealed the fast-food giant’s coveted 11 herbs and spices blend.

For years, amateur chefs have tried to replicate KFC’s distinct flavor in their own kitchens, often without success.

Ledington explained that the recipe was hiding in plain sight all along, on the back of his aunt’s last will.

11 herbs and spices that make KFC’s food delicious

The handwritten note, carefully penned in blue ink, lists “11 Spices — Mix With 2 Cups White Flour.”

The main ingredients are 4 tablespoons of paprika, 3 tablespoons of white pepper, and 2 tablespoons of garlic salt.

Ledington stressed that this combination of herbs and spices is what makes KFC’s chicken so unique compared to other fast-food options.

According to him, this recipe, developed by Colonel Sanders himself, has remained unaltered since its inception.

The key ingredients feature familiar spices like paprika, white pepper, garlic salt, thyme, basil, and oregano.

However, the standout component is white pepper, which Ledington described as the “secret ingredient” that sets KFC’s recipe apart.

“Nobody (in the 1950s) knew what white pepper was. Nobody knew how to use it,” Ledington revealed.

“The main ingredient is white pepper,” he said.

The recipe also includes three different types of salt: garlic salt, regular salt, and surprisingly, celery salt.

This blend of salts, combined with dried mustard and ground ginger, provides the perfect balance of savory and slightly spicy flavors.

These ingredients work together to enhance the chicken’s taste, making it even more delightful.

When reporters from the Chicago Tribune tried the highly sought-after recipe and cooked it, they concluded that the outcome was genuinely “finger lickin’ good.”

Social media reactions

Many fans are ecstatic about finally knowing the secret recipe.

Some see this as an opportunity to refine their cooking skills by mimicking KFC’s signature taste at home.

Others appreciate the idea of enjoying their favorite fast-food meal without having to step out of their house.

One user commented, “KFC is low grade compared to other places. Haven’t eaten KFC since the 80’s.”

Another user shared, “I treat myself to Popeyes or Korean Fried Chicken once a year.”

However, some users are nostalgic, noting that “KFC is not all that anymore; it doesn’t taste like the olden days.”

“I think salt replaced all the spices,” another user speculated.
