World famous star died today after being buried in an avalanche

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the untimely passing of Catherine “Kasha” Rigby, a world-renowned skier. Tragically, she lost her life in an avalanche while skiing near Brezovica, Kosovo’s only ski resort.

Kasha, 54, originally from Vermont but now residing in Utah, was working on an exciting project called Tour de Piste. This endeavor took her off-piste, exploring the slopes of ski resorts across the globe.

During one of her daring descents on the Eagle’s Nest slope in Kosovo, disaster struck. An avalanche engulfed her, ultimately leading to her demise. Devastatingly, her fiancé, Magnus Wolfe Murray, who was with her at the time, made brave attempts to revive her but was unable to succeed. Euronews.albania first reported this heart-wrenching news.

Kasha Rigby made her mark on the world as one of the first telemark skiers in the United States during the 1990s. She revolutionized the sport with her fast and aggressive style, earning her the title of “the best telemark skier in the known universe” by Outside magazine.

Her passion for telemark skiing led her to conquer high peaks all around the world. Notably, she became the first person to ski down Cho Oyu on telemark skis. She fearlessly explored mountains of India, Kamchatka, the Andes, and the Himalayas, descending slopes that reached 5,000 and 6,000 meters above sea level. Her incredible skills on the slopes also led her to be featured in nine skiing movies.

Kasha Rigby shared many unforgettable adventures with fellow skier Hilaree Nelson, who tragically lost her life in 2022 while descending from the summit of Manaslu. In 2010, Kasha, Hilaree, Margaret Wheeler, and Alison Gannett achieved an extraordinary feat by skiing down the Northwest Face of Hanuman Tibba (5,982m) in the Indian Himalayas. They demonstrated their mastery by traversing a challenging 2,500-meter couloir.

Kasha Rigby’s unwavering spirit and groundbreaking achievements have left an indelible mark on the world of skiing. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace.
