After his father’s passing, a son decided to place his aging mother in a care facility, visiting her only occasionally.
One day, he received an urgent call from the home, informing him that his mother was in critical condition and urged him to visit immediately.
When he arrived, he found his mother on her deathbed.
With concern, he asked, “Mom, what can I do for you?”
With a weak voice, his mother responded, “Please install fans in the old age home. There are none… And please arrange for a fridge to preserve the food better. There were many nights I went to bed without a proper meal.”
The son was taken aback. He said, “Mom, you never complained about these things before. Why mention them now, when you have so little time left?”
She looked at him with eyes full of wisdom and sorrow and said, “My dear son, I bore all those sufferings in silence, but my heart breaks at the thought of you or your loved ones going through the same. I want the old age home to be a better place because one day, just as you placed me here, your children might do the same to you. Remember, what you give is what you get.”
