The tragic case of Mia Campos, a 16-year-old girl from Georgia who was expecting her first baby, has left a community heartbroken after she was found dead in a wooded area.
Mia had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of her baby boy, who was due in the fall. Her sudden disappearance on July 14th, when she left her parents’ home with an unknown individual, sparked immediate concern among family and friends.
Authorities in Gwinnett County, Georgia, were notified on the morning of July 15th about Mia’s body being discovered near a road. It was reported that a family member, utilizing a phone app, located Mia’s body. The medical examiner soon determined that Mia’s death was a result of foul play.
Last Wednesday, Jesus Monroy, Mia’s former boyfriend, was arrested by the police for providing false information during the investigation. However, it is important to note that Monroy has not been formally charged with Mia’s murder at this time.
Mia’s family believes that Monroy is the father of her unborn child. According to 11 Alive, Mia’s parents, Miriam Zarate and Edward Campos, discovered their daughter’s body just minutes away from their home.
Edward recounted the harrowing moment he found his daughter: “I found my daughter lying face-down,” he stated. “It was really tough. I knew something was wrong – her lips, her bleeding nose.”
He continued, “We somehow ended up there, and because I didn’t have a flashlight, I just used my phone. Then I said, ‘She’s right there.’ It just broke my heart. Thank God that I found her.”
Reports reveal that Mia was the youngest among five siblings. Her unborn son, whom she planned to name Sebastian, was expected to be born in September.
Miriam and Edward also mentioned to Fox 5 that Monroy had stayed with them for two days after Mia’s death. “We keep praying every night and that’s why he came with his parents. That’s why I was shocked when they sent me the notice. I was like, ‘Wow,’” Edward explained.
