Pro-Hamas protesters ‘need to be arrested and sent to jail,’ Speaker Johnson argues: ‘Zero tolerance’

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress was met with protests across Washington, DC

Speaker Johnson issues stern warning: ‘We cannot allow pro-terrorist mobs to win’

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., joined ‘America’s Newsroom’ to discuss the situation in Washington, D.C. following PM Netanyahu’s speech and other pertinent topics.

During Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress, pro-Hamas demonstrators caused quite a stir across Washington, D.C. Despite the chaos, the evening ended on a noteworthy note with the American flag being hoisted once again.

House Speaker Johnson shared, “Rep. Brandon Williams of New York had the idea to go out there and put the American flag back in its rightful place. We will not let anyone intimidate Jewish people and those who support Israel,” he emphasized, reflecting on this proud moment.

Protesters gathered at Columbus Memorial Fountain at Union Station in Washington, D.C., as Netanyahu delivered his speech to Congress. Some demonstrators even carried what appeared to be Hamas flags, with acts of vandalism seen in various places.

While discussing the matter on ‘America’s Newsroom,’ Johnson emphasized the need for a strong response to these acts. “We respect free speech, but vandalizing monuments and public property is unacceptable. Those who do so need to be arrested and sent to jail if they’re supporting a terrorist agenda,” he stated firmly.

As of Wednesday evening, 23 protesters had been taken into custody. Among them, nine individuals aged 15-32 were charged with offenses such as assaulting a police officer.

Johnson reiterated on the program that there is zero tolerance for such disturbances, both inside the chamber during Netanyahu’s address and outside in the streets. He praised Netanyahu’s address as extraordinary, highlighting Israel’s strength on the global stage.

Johnson also voiced strong opinions on current U.S. leadership, critiquing President Biden for projecting weakness both domestically and internationally, thereby allowing chaos to ensue.

He ended his discussion with a stern warning that allowing terrorist-supporting mobs to win is not an option.
