John Lennon’s Son Sings Imagine For The First Time And We Are In Tears

Over the years, countless musicians have touched our lives with their talents. Some remain beloved figures long after their music first graced the airwaves, their songs becoming timeless pieces that continue to resonate with us.

One such iconic musician was John Lennon. Renowned for his work with the Beatles and his impactful solo songs, Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ holds a special place in many of our hearts.

Tragically, John Lennon’s life was cut short. Yet, he left a lasting legacy through his son, Julian Lennon. Julian had long stated that he would never perform ‘Imagine’, believing the song and its message should be reserved for the most dire of times.

However, the 59-year-old Julian decided to sing the song publicly for the first time during the 2022 Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine event. This campaign aims to support those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

Julian described the situation in Ukraine as an ‘unimaginable tragedy’ and felt compelled to respond with a gesture of profound significance.

“The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…” Julian wrote. “As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes and seek asylum elsewhere.”

Since late February, over 4.5 million people have become refugees, fleeing Ukraine in search of safety. The global fundraiser where Julian performed ‘Imagine’ successfully raised over $10 billion to aid these refugees.

Julian, son of John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia Lennon, is also urging everyone to extend their help not just to Ukrainian refugees but to all individuals seeking a better life.

“I’m calling on world leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment of IMAGINE to stand up for refugees everywhere! Please advocate and donate from the heart.”
