Heartbreaking Photo Shows Shelter Pit Bull “Losing Hope” After Adoptions Fall Through — Still Looking for a Home

All shelter dogs dream of finding a home of their own, but some dogs get passed over time and time again, and begin to lose hope that they’ll ever get adopted.

That’s what one heartbreaking viral photo showed, as a 3-year-old shelter dog looks devastated after not getting adopted again. But despite everything, there is still hope for this lonely dog…

Let me introduce you to Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull who’s been experiencing some of the toughest luck out there. Rocky has been staying at Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, since October 2022. Why so long, you ask? Well, Rocky’s family was evicted from their home and had no choice but to surrender him, as Newsweek reports.

It’s been a series of highs and lows for Rocky. He’s had people come into his life, taking him home with hopes high, only to return him to the shelter. Twice he’s been adopted, and if we count the short two-week adoption trials, his hopes have risen and crashed more times than a soap opera character’s love life.

Lindsay Brewer, a communications specialist, sheds light on Rocky’s situation. “He was most recently returned this past September and has had no luck since. He’s a great dog, but he would thrive in a certain type of home that may be more difficult to find.” Turns out, Rocky is looking for a home where he can be the star of the show— the only dog in an adults-only house.

Now, here’s where the tissue comes in handy. After a year of being let down, Rocky’s starting to show signs of heartbreak. The shelter posted a truly gut-wrenching photo of Rocky sitting alone in his kennel, his head hanging low as though he’s reliving each rejection over and over.

Rocky’s story isn’t just a tearjerker; it’s a call to action. If only the right person could walk through those shelter doors and see past his tough exterior to the loyal, loving dog inside. Rocky’s had it rough, no doubt about it, but there’s still a flicker of hope that his forever home is out there.

So, what can we do? Spread the word, share his story, and if you know anyone who fits the bill, point them in Rocky’s direction. Until then, we’re all rooting for you, Rocky.
