With the help of his cousin and a net, Connor reeled in his line only to discover that he had not caught a fish at all, but a wallet. To his astonishment, the wallet held a whopping $2,000 in cash and a business card with a phone number.
Faced with a moral decision, Connor and his family didn’t hesitate. They knew someone had suffered a significant loss, so they used the contact information on the business card to find the wallet’s owner, opting to return it.
The wallet belonged to Jim Denney, a farmer from Iowa who had visited Lake of the Woods the previous year. During his trip, his wallet had dropped into the water, a loss he only realized when he couldn’t pay his resort bill and found himself penniless.
