On a Very Cold Night, a Rich Man Met a Homeless Old Man

On one exceptionally cold night, a wealthy man came across an old homeless man outside. The millionaire paused and asked him, “I see you don’t have a winter coat. Aren’t you cold?” The old man, after a moment’s thought, answered, “I am, but I’m used to it.” Deeply moved by the response, the rich man said, “Wait here! I’m going inside to get you a thick coat to keep you warm through the night.”

The old man’s face lit up with hope and joy as he promised to wait. The rich man went inside his home but, unfortunately, got distracted and forgot his promise entirely.

The next morning, as he awoke, he suddenly remembered the old man and hurried outside to find him. Sadly, the homeless man had succumbed to the bitter cold during the night. The wealthy man found a note beside him that read, “When I didn’t have warm clothes, I had the strength to endure the cold because I was accustomed to it. But when you promised to help me, I held onto that promise and it drained my strength to resist.”

MORAL: Never make a promise, not even of love, if you can’t keep it. To you, it might seem trivial, but to someone else, it could mean everything. Share this touching story with others. Thank you.
