Hot Water Bottle Hack for a Good Night’s Sleep in a Heatwave

Finally, we can expect some warm weather this June. After what feels like an eternity, it has been confirmed that the UK’s hottest day of the year will arrive next week. We are all excited about it! While some extra heat is great for our vitamin D levels and getting a tan, trying to sleep in 30-degree heat is a real struggle.

According to Grahame Madge, a spokesperson for the Met Office, an area of high pressure will build across most of the UK over the coming week, bringing fine conditions and elevated temperatures. The daytime maximum temperatures may even reach 30°C, although temperatures of 28°C or 29°C are more likely. These conditions will last until at least the middle of next week.

But fear not! We have discovered a hack that might help us get a few more precious hours of sleep when the temperatures soar. User James Uscroft shared the ‘cold water bottle hack’ on social media, and it seems pretty smart.

Instead of using a hot water bottle to keep warm on those cold winter nights, this trick suggests filling it with cold water and placing it in the fridge or freezer for a few hours. When it’s time for bed, you’ll have a nice cold bottle to cuddle up to and help cool you down. Sounds genius, right?

To find out more about this hack, we reached out to James Wilson, also known as The Sleep Geek. Interestingly, James recommends avoiding extremely cold water in the bottle to ensure a comfortable sleep. He suggests filling the hot water bottle with lukewarm water an hour before bed, placing your bare feet on it. This will slightly raise your core temperature and help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Whether you prefer lukewarm, cold, or freezing, the temperature of your hot water bottle ultimately depends on personal preference. The important thing is to do what feels comfortable for you.

So go ahead and try this hot water bottle hack to keep cool at night during the heatwave. Sweet dreams!
