Levi Wright: A Brave Little Boy

Levi Wright, the three-year-old son of rodeo star Spencer Wright, tragically lost his life after a near-drowning incident on May 21. Levi suffered a traumatic brain injury when he accidentally drove a toy tractor into a river near their family home. Found unconscious about a mile downstream, Levi was rushed to a Salt Lake City hospital.

Even though the initial prognosis was bleak, with doctors declaring him brain dead and not expected to survive, Levi defied the odds and started showing signs of improvement. His mother, Kallie Wright, shared the incredible news on Facebook: “LEVI WOKE UP! I am shook, we don’t know much but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that and I AM! My baby is so tough!”

However, the following day brought devastating news. The results of an MRI revealed discouraging images, leaving the family shattered. Kallie shared, “We’re shattered but it is just images that suggest a certain quality of life. Our real teller of all will be what Levi does over the course of a few days.”

As Levi continued his fight in the hospital, his family and friends rallied together, seeking solace in prayers and support. Everyone hoped for a miracle and eagerly awaited Levi’s progress.

On June 2, Kallie shared heart-wrenching news on Facebook. After doing extensive research, consulting with top neurologists, and after endless prayers, the Wright family had to confront their biggest fear. Kallie expressed, “Levi showed us just enough to buy us time for all of this. We prayed those things were him defying odds & proving to us that he wanted to stay here, but we see now he wanted to give us time to find peace with letting him go.”

After countless tests, scans, and consultations, the Wright family made the difficult decision to take Levi off life support. The next day, on June 3, Levi tragically passed away. A close family friend, Mindy Sue Clark, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook.

“I cannot even begin to explain how hard the last two weeks have been. From the moment my phone rang the night of his accident, to last night receiving the message that he had to go. I don’t want to focus on the bad or sad, even though it feels like someone ripped my heart out and squeezed it right in front of me. I want to focus on the many miracles we all got to bear witness to in those 12 days.”

Levi was the most perfect three-year-old, who brought people together and illuminated the lives of those around him. Clark beautifully expressed, “In a world so dark, we got to see light at the hands of a child. He’s everything his mom and dad could’ve wanted him to be.”

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Wright family during this extremely difficult time.
