Kelly Rowland knows where to draw the line. Recently, a video of the singer engaging in a heated argument with a Cannes security guard went viral. It happened during the world premiere of Marcello Mio, where Rowland was making her Cannes debut. But her red carpet photo shoot was abruptly interrupted.
Photos and videos surfaced, capturing the moment when Rowland appeared to be in a heated exchange with a security guard at Cannes. As photographers and fans were eagerly trying to capture a picture, a security guard signaled for Rowland to start walking up the stairs. Three more security guards formed a blockade, hastily escorting her up the Palais stairs.
With anger in her eyes, Rowland pointed her finger at the security officer. While the audio may not have been clear, many fans who are good at lip reading have managed to decipher what she said.
According to lip readers, Rowland apparently said to the security guard, “Don’t talk to me like that, you’re not my mother, don’t talk to me like that.” And it seems like she wasn’t the only one who noticed. Tarek Ali, a podcaster, shared a video of the incident on X and commented, “I don’t need a lip reader. She’s being rushed and treated like she’s just a plus one. They even blocked the photographers from getting a clear view of her face. Kelly was being respectful until the security guard got rude, just like the French tend to do. Kelly let her have it!”
According to a source close to Rowland who spoke to the Daily Mail, she was simply “advocating for herself” amidst the chaos of the red carpet. The source revealed, “The people assigned to help stars walk the red carpet were being aggressive, and Kelly was trying to ignore it.” They continued, “She doesn’t care if she comes across as a diva if she knows she is advocating for herself. Kelly isn’t fake and wanted to set a clear boundary.”
Interestingly, this incident comes just weeks after Rowland left the Today show set due to her dissatisfaction with the changing rooms. According to Page Six, Rowland and her team were not happy with the dressing room they were provided. As a result, they decided to withdraw her as a guest host, leaving Hoda Kotb without a co-host for the 10 a.m. hour. In comparison, Jennifer Lopez managed to secure one of the larger dressing rooms during a game of “musical dressing rooms” at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
