Grandma, 83, Issues a Warning to Online Daters After Split from Egyptian Toyboy

You might remember Iris Jones as that incredible grandma who made headlines for marrying an Egyptian toyboy back in 2020. Recently, she has issued a cautionary message to all online daters, sharing her own experience with scammers and con artists.

At the age of 80, Iris met Mohamed Ibriham on Facebook and tied the knot when she was 83 and he was 37. Their unconventional love story even captured the attention of the media, with Iris giving a candid interview on This Morning in 2021. However, the relationship eventually came to an end last summer, with Iris disclosing that it had become challenging and filled with constant arguments.

Since their split, Iris has found solace in the company of her cat, Mr. Tibbs, whom she considers to be the perfect companion. However, her newfound popularity has made her a target for scammers and con artists online. In a warning to other vulnerable women, Iris took to Facebook to share her experience and advise caution.

“Be aware that they are only interested in getting their filthy paws on your money and will sweet-talk you for weeks, or even months, in order to achieve their goals,” Iris wrote.

Over the past few months, Iris claims to have encountered four scammers who tried to deceive her. Calling herself a “competent scam hunter,” she has managed to protect herself from being conned out of thousands of pounds. In fact, she recently exposed one particularly deceitful individual, relishing in the role of the puppet-master.

Despite her unfortunate experience, Iris remains strong and resilient. She has no regrets and wants to ensure that others don’t fall victim to these schemes. She advises everyone to approach online dating with vigilance and skepticism.

Iris’s split from Mohamed was not without controversy. She accused him of taking a total of £39,000 from her, both during his time in the UK and when she sent money directly to Egypt. Mohamed, in response, denied any financial motivation and claimed to have worked in various countries in the Middle East.

Regardless of the details of their relationship, Iris’s message serves as a reminder for all of us, regardless of age or circumstance, to be cautious when it comes to online interactions. Scammers and con artists exist everywhere, and it’s important to stay alert and protect ourselves from their deceitful tactics.
