Another woman who married into the Royal Family is Queen Camilla, who, after her union with King Charles, became one of the most senior members of the monarchy.
These days, Camilla has overcome the initial backlash surrounding her perceived usurping of Diana’s position, and she is generally well-liked and accepted by the British public. However, that does not shield her from occasional criticism and trolls, as shown after the Order of the British Empire ceremony in London last week.
Camilla and King Charles attended the ceremony together, which honors “outstanding contributions to the war effort” and recognizes the work of people from all walks of life. As expected, their outfits drew attention from the public. While the various ensembles worn by senior royals at prestigious events can sometimes appear downright bizarre, it was Camilla’s choice of attire under her red silken dress robe that became the talking point.
The 76-year-old queen was seen wearing a floral-patterned dress, complemented by light beige heels, charm bracelets, and diamond earrings. However, she faced criticism on social media, with people labeling her dress a “house dress.”
Under a tweet comparing photos of Queen Camilla and the late Queen Elizabeth II, both wearing the same red dress robe, some comments were less than flattering. One person wrote, “Why is Camilla wearing a house dress under that cape?” Another added, “Does Camilla just throw a robe over her house dress?” There were further remarks highlighting the differences between the two queens and expressing disappointment in Charles and Camilla’s attire.
Queen Camilla has recently found herself shouldering new levels of responsibility and importance due to her husband King Charles and Kate Middleton receiving cancer diagnoses. While Charles and Kate focus on treatment, other members of the Royal Family have stepped in to support. Prince William, on the other hand, has divided his time between royal duties and spending time with his wife, which has placed significant pressure on Camilla’s shoulders.
