A Dog in Need of a Loving Home

Being in a shelter for a long time can be tough on a dog, especially when they face constant rejection. This is the sad reality for Major, a 4-year-old terrier/pitbull mix in Indiana who has spent more than 260 days in a shelter. Despite the heartbreak, Major’s friends at the shelter still hold out hope for him, believing that there is a perfect family out there waiting for him.

Major was brought to the Humane Society for Hamilton County as a stray last summer. The shelter was able to contact his original owners, who initially promised to pick him up but never showed up. Since then, Major has remained in the shelter, waiting for his second chance.

In the beginning, Major was described as a “sweet and sensitive” dog with a “big heart.” The shelter staff nicknamed him “Major hunk” and “Major heartthrob” due to his handsome looks. He loves to play and has a particular fondness for his Jolly Ball. However, despite his wonderful qualities, potential adopters continuously overlooked him, causing his spirits to dim over time.

In an effort to alleviate his stress, the shelter moved Major out of the kennels and into a visiting room. However, the ultimate solution is to find him a forever home as soon as possible. Major would thrive in a family without young children or cats, and a meet-and-greet with other dogs is encouraged due to his strength and sometimes overzealous nature.

While not every home may be a perfect fit for Major, there is undoubtedly a family out there who will be his perfect match. If you are ready to welcome a loving, strong, and playful companion into your life, Major is the one for you! You can fill out an application on his adoption page and visit the Humane Society of Hamilton County to meet him.

It breaks our hearts to see Major losing hope and spiraling into sadness after such a long time in the shelter. Let’s come together and spread the word about this beautiful dog in the hopes of finding him a new family as soon as possible. Together, we can make a difference in Major’s life. ❤️
