A woman faced a tough decision when her elderly parents wanted to move in with her. She had the choice of letting them stay in her garage-turned-guest house or finding them a place in a nursing facility.
The woman, a single mother whose children had all moved out, had a spacious home with five bedrooms. However, she only used two of them for herself and turned the others into her office and hobbies. To accommodate her children’s visits, she transformed her garage into a guest house with all the necessary amenities and a private entrance.
Initially, her children were on board with the idea of staying in the guest house during holidays. But when their grandparents wanted to move in, everything changed.

However, the woman’s parents were surprised and disappointed when they discovered that the garage was meant to be their permanent residence. They had assumed they would be living in the main house, considering it had five bedrooms. But the woman explained that she had repurposed the other bedrooms and only had two for herself.
Despite the guest house providing all the necessary comforts, the woman’s parents expressed their dissatisfaction with living in the garage. The woman gave them an ultimatum – either move into the prepared room or find a nursing home elsewhere.
The woman couldn’t believe their reluctance to live rent-free in a private and comfortable space. Many Reddit users sympathized with her situation, while others shared stories of similar arrangements with more appreciative parents.
While some suggested that the woman should have consulted her parents beforehand, others emphasized the importance of setting boundaries while still allowing occasional visits to the main house.
