Cancer Patient Was Afraid Of Leaving Her Dog Behind

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named Lucky. He was quite the character, known for helping himself to anything he fancied from guests’ open luggage. Lucky would hide his finds in his toy box, making sure all of his toys stayed in one place.

But then, Mary received devastating news – she had breast cancer. The thought of leaving her beloved Lucky behind when she died weighed heavily on her. Lucky was her dog, and she worried that he wouldn’t understand why she had to go. The fear of abandoning him made her even sadder than the thought of her own death.

Mary scheduled a double mastectomy, but the procedure turned out to be harder on her than expected. She ended up hospitalized for over two weeks. During this time, Jim faithfully took Lucky for his evening walks, but the little dog was visibly unhappy and miserable.

Finally, the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. Exhausted, she couldn’t make it up the stairs to her bedroom and settled on the couch for a nap. Lucky stood watching her, but he didn’t come when she called. Mary felt a tinge of sadness, but soon after, she woke up to a heartwarming surprise.

To her amazement, Mary found herself covered in all of Lucky’s favorite things. While she was asleep, Lucky had made numerous trips to the basement, bringing her every treasure he owned. She was literally blanketed with his love. In that moment, Mary forgot about dying and embraced the joy of living again with Lucky by her side.

It has been 12 years since that day, and Mary remains cancer-free. Lucky still collects and stashes treasures in his toy box, but Mary is his greatest treasure. This heartwarming story not only showcases the incredible love our pets have for us, but it is also dedicated to all the survivors out there. You are survivors because you never gave up, even when it seemed like the only option. By fighting your way out, you now stand proudly, unafraid of anything.
