Randy Travis Returns to Sing “Amazing Grace” After Stroke

Randy Travis is a true music legend. Even after suffering from a stroke, his powerful voice can still give you chills. Recently, he honored fellow country music star George Jones by performing a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Joined by peers like Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, and Travis Tritt, Randy took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry, bathed in blue and purple lighting.

It’s been a long and difficult road for Randy and his wife Mary. In July 2013, Randy was rushed to the hospital with complications of viral cardiomyopathy. He suffered a stroke, underwent brain surgery, and fell into a coma. The doctors gave him a mere 1 or 2 percent chance of survival, and they suggested that Mary consider removing life support.

But Mary knew her husband was a fighter. She refused to give up on him, defying the odds and her own fears. Randy remained in a coma, connected to machines that kept him alive. And then, miraculously, he woke up.

Since then, Randy has been on a journey of recovery. Although he is still wheelchair-bound, he has made progress and can now walk short distances on his own. He has also rediscovered his love for music and continues to pursue his passion. In 2016, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring talent and resilience.

Randy’s story is one of hope and perseverance. His wife Mary summed it up perfectly, saying, “We’re blessed. We’re happy to be where we are. We don’t know what God has in store for us at the end of this recovery. Right now, we’re just thankful to be where we are, and we’re singing a different song.” They are grateful for every day and eager to serve a purpose wherever life takes them.

While Randy still struggles with aphasia, a language disorder, he continues to work hard and pray for his full recovery. His determination shines through in every performance, including his rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Watch the video and witness the emotion and talent that still resonates from this incredible artist.

It is truly remarkable what Randy Travis has achieved after his stroke. His story is an inspiration to us all. Mr. Travis, you are a gifted and talented man, and your music will forever touch our hearts. We pray for your ongoing healing and wish you all the best on your road to recovery.
