A Glass Of Milk

Once upon a time, a young boy who was selling goods to pay for his education found himself with only a dime in his pocket and a grumbling stomach. Determined to quell his hunger, he mustered the courage to knock on the door of a nearby house. However, when a kind-hearted young woman answered, he hesitated. Instead of asking for a meal, he requested a drink of water.

Concerned, the woman noticed the boy’s hunger and decided to go above and beyond. She brought him a large glass of milk. The boy appreciated her gesture so much that he asked, “How much do I owe you?”

With a warm smile, the woman replied, “You don’t owe me anything. My mother taught me to never accept payment for a kindness.”

Grateful, the boy thanked her sincerely from the bottom of his heart. As he left the house, he not only felt physically stronger from the nourishing milk but also renewed in his faith in both God and humanity. He had been on the verge of giving up, but this simple act of kindness rejuvenated his spirit.

Many years later, the same woman fell critically ill. The local doctors were at a loss as to how to treat her rare condition, so they sent her to a renowned hospital in the big city. Desperate for answers, they called in specialists, and among them was Dr. Howard Kelly.

When Dr. Kelly heard the name of the town she came from, a spark of recognition ignited within him. Without hesitation, he made his way to her room, dressed in his doctor’s gown. As soon as he saw her, he knew immediately who she was.

Determined to save her life, Dr. Kelly devoted special attention to her case. He fought tirelessly for her recovery, and after a long and arduous struggle, the battle was won.

When it came time to finalize the bill, Dr. Kelly personally reviewed it. As he glanced at the amount, he felt compelled to write something on the edge. The bill was then sent to the patient’s room, awaiting her anxious eyes.

Apprehensively, she opened the bill, fully expecting it to be a staggering sum that would take a lifetime to repay. But as she read the words on the side, tears of joy welled up in her eyes. It simply said, “Paid in full with one glass of milk,” signed by Dr. Howard A. Kelly.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, her heart filled with happiness as she whispered a prayer of thanksgiving to God. In that moment, she realized how love can spread through the hearts and hands of humanity.

This heartwarming story reminds us of the power of acts of kindness and the impact they can have on both the giver and the receiver. It serves as a beautiful testament to the belief that generosity and compassion can transcend time and bring about miracles.
